Backup

Overview

Use the options on the Backup tab to view and modify backup settings, including backup destinations, files to back up, and status.

Item Description
aBackup DestinationsThe people who have agreed to let you back up to their computers. They may or may not be active. Click a backup destination to display its settings. The icon next to the destination name indicates it status. A green icon means you are connected to that destination. A gray icon means the client is not connected to the destination.
bResume/PauseResumes/Pauses backup.
cBackup Destination StatusProgress bar shows current backup activity for each of the destination you are currently backing up to. Info icon display info about number of files to be backed up and number which have been backed up.
dFiles to Back UpSpecifies the file/folders to be included in your backup. You can select as many files or folders as you want.
eFolders to BackupNumber and amount of files selected for backup.
fChange File SelectionDisplays file tree where you can change (add or delete) files for backup.
gScan Flags changed data for next backup. Overrides the Settings > General > Back up changed files after setting.

Backup Destinations – Details

Item Description
Destination NameName of the backup destination. The icon next to the destination name indicates it status. A green icon means you are connected to that destination. A gray icon means the client is not connected to the destination.
ComputerComputer identification number (also called a GUID). This unique number identifies your computer and the backup files associated with your computer.
Backup to this destination?Checked - Back up to this destination.
Unchecked - Do not back up to this destination. Note: If you uncheck after completing your backup and save you will lose the data already transferred to the destination.
Allotted SpaceIndicates how much space is available for backing up.
Automatic - means there are no space restrictions on the size of the incoming files from this location.
Internal AddressAddress on the internal network.
External AddressAddress that CrashPlan sees.
Connection StatusIndicates connectivity to this backup destination, for how long and date/time of last backup.
Last BackupIndicates success or results of last backup to this destination.
Space usedAmount of space your backup is using on this destination.
Undo ChangesClick to set the features back to previous settings (same effect as cancel).
SaveClick to apply changes.
General Tips
  • You're connected! A green circle next to a destination or source indicates an active connection.
  • No connection. A gray circle indicates that there is no connection.
  • Simplify your desktop. You can hide messages that appear on the desktop. Just click the “x” button in the upper right corner. Note that you can't re-display the message box.
  • Want to know more? Click the icons (arrows, “i”, etc.) in the desktop to display details or a menu of options.
