Use a Windows Network Share as a Mount Point

Overview

This article covers using a remote Windows network share (such as a NAS device) as a mount point within PRO Server.

PRO Server currently has limited abilities to use a UNC path as a directory when creating a mount point. Unfortunately this approach does not support authentication of any kind so the remote share must support access without a username / password.

The techniques described here are not supported by CrashPlan PRO Support. Use at your own risk.

How It Works

  1. Set the NAS to accept your Administrator user without credentials
  2. Adjust the service to run as your Administrator (instead of SYSTEM)
    Set in Service Properties.
  3. Create a local directory mount by specifying the host and path:
    //host_ip/path_to_share
