Sometimes you don't get alerts or reports when you thought you should or you get an error that you want to investigate. That's when CrashPlan PRO's log files can be very useful.
In the log files, you can search for the information you need to see what CrashPlan PRO is doing. There are two kinds of logs:
System logs - view server activity related to all backups.
Computer logs - view computer-specific activity for debugging, restoring and backup activity. Use the history log to display all CrashPlan PRO activity on this computer.
In CrashPlan PRO Server, click the Settings tab.
If you have more than one server, click on the appropriate server. The current server is identified with an asterisk (*).
From the organizations list, click the user whose computer activity you want to view.
On the user's page, click the computer whose log you wish to view.
From the navigation menu, click the command for the type of log file that you want to view.
| Command | Log file |
| Retrieve History Log | History for all CrashPlan PRO activity on this computer. |
| Retrieve Backup Log | Backup activity on this computer. |
| Retrieve Restore Log | Restore activity on this computer. |
| Retrieve Debug Log | Debug window. |
Change the number of lines to be displayed per page
Add a filter string (like email address, computer GUID, etc).
In the filter box, type (SEVERE|WARNING) to find all SEVERE and WARNING messages.
Page through the file with the arrow keys or jump to a specific page number.
Note that to keep the server logs from getting too large we occasionally start new files. The com_backup42_app.log.0 file will always be the most recent.
| Search String | Shows You… |
| BackupReporter | Detail of a recent backup report |
| (SEVERE|WARNING) | All lines with either SEVERE or WARNING in them |
| (Emailer|SendEmail) | Messages from the email subsystem |
| joe@acme.com | All lines with that email address |
| CommunicationException | LDAP connection timeouts |
| LAST MAINT TS | archive maintenance work |
