Restore a Server from a Database Dump

There are two ways to rebuild your server from your database: you can do it from within the PRO Server admin console or you can do it using the command-line tools.

Before You Begin

  1. If possible, block clients from accessing the server while you rebuild it.
  2. If using a version of PRO Server prior to 11.5.2009:
    1. Enter your Master License Key.
    2. Copy the old server's identity file over the new identity file PRO Server just created. Where to find it.

Perform the Restore

The restore process can be performed in one of two ways:

  • You can perform a restore using the import feature in the admin console
  • You can restore using the restore command-line tool. Details of each approach can be found below.

Restore From the Admin Console

A database restore can be performed directly from the admin console using the Import your database dump view.

Restore Using the Command-line Tools

You can also perform a database restore from the command-line using the restore_database tool. Details for using this tool (and all other command-line tools distributed with PRO Server) are in this PRO Server Command Line Tools article.

After You Restore

  1. Once your server is available, log in and verify its configuration.
    1. Review the organizations and users.
    2. On the Settings page, edit the location of the mount points.
This article describes editing the mount point location for a single archive, but also applies multiple archives: How to import an archive into a PRO server
    3. Perform a write test on each mount to ensure that it is available.
  2. Point your DNS name to the new server so your clients can automatically find it.
  3. Unblock clients access to the PRO Server.
