Remote Client Administration

Overview

CrashPlan PRO allows you to configure client and user settings at a global level (by choosing defaults for servers, users, clients and organizations) and at the user / computer level (by drilling down to a specific user / computer) to override the defaults.

  • In PRO Server you can set default client settings that affect dozens of CrashPlan PRO features and options. Briefly, these settings determine the backup file selection, when CrashPlan PRO runs, the language to use, when alerts and warning are sent, plus numerous performance, network and security settings.
  • In addition, you can use PRO Server to view and edit settings for individual clients and their computers.
  • And finally, end-users can use PRO Client to make changes to these settings for themselves.

Controlling What Users Can Change

As an administrator, you can use the “lock” option in the admin console to prevent users from making changes to the default settings you make. In this way you can enforce policies that require strict compliance and still allow users the flexibility change the settings that you decide are safe for them to change.

By locking settings you can disable or hide specific controls in the end-user's PRO Client software.

Working with PRO Client

Where you have allowed users to change settings in their PRO Client, you can use the Merge option to add your settings to those that the user may have set.

Benefits

CrashPlan PRO remote client management features allow you to control settings and configuration information at global level as well as at a specific client level.
