Push Installations

Overview

CrashPlan PRO Push Installation capabilities allows you to install PRO Client on many computers automatically. Because some input is required at the time of installation, CrashPlan PRO's push capabilities allow the administrator to supply these parameters in files / scripts so that the installations can proceed without human intervention.

CrashPlan PRO doesn't actually “push” the installer to your client computers. Rather use the push install capabilities (combined with your choice of installer software), to automatically:

  • register the user
  • establish and lock default settings including files to backup
  • assign default backup destinations
  • specify whether to start backups automatically

Information you can provide to the installer:

  • PRO Server host name
  • Default organization
  • User for whom to install software
  • User email address
  • User password (if you are using LDAP, password entry can be deferred until the PRO Client is started)

Auto-assign users to organizations

PRO Server can assign users to an organization when they register. If you have multiple organizations to which you are pushing out installations, you can make multiple custom installers using different organization codes to auto-assign different user communities to different organizations.

Benefits

CrashPlan PRO push install features provide the following benefits:

  • Install CrashPlan PRO Client on many computers without human intervention, in less time, with no input errors
  • Customize the PRO Client for your site
